I honestly wonder if GRRM doesn't know how the story will end

I'm guessing he had a gameplan that he gave to D&D, though if I were him, I would go a different direction if/when he ever gets around to writing them. I do know he has made comments about writing himself into a corner at times based on developed back-stories and prior events.

The books have Lady Stoneheart and all kinds of other things going on that the show has ignored or brushed by. The books also have not gone overboard with the night king (simply alluded to almost like a Keyser Soze bed time story type character) and the white walkers are simply referred to as "others" so that whole conflict could play out much differently.
